Aging and Neurocognition Lab

Lydia and Shraddha presented their poster "Characterizing Early and Late Mild Cognitive Impairment Using EEG Alpha Power" at the second annual Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Initiative Clinical and Translational Neuroscience Workshop at Carle Foundation Hospital on February 17. This workshop focused on the topics of sleep, rehabilitative and restorative neuroscience, and neurological disease (for more information click   here ). Great work representing our lab Lydia and Shraddha!

The LINC (Life story Intervention through Narratives and Conversations) program was started by Dr. Raksha Mudar and Clarion Mendes to train graduate student clinicians on how to deliver personalized care to individuals diagnosed with dementia and other neurodegenerative conditions. The program has been a wonderful success and was recently highlighted on the UIUC facebook page here !

The Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Initiative (IHSI) at UIUC put out it's inaugural issue of NeuroMatters for Fall 2016 and Lydia had her work shown in it! In August 2016, Lydia presented a poster at "Synapse: A Collaborative Neuroscience Conference" hosted at the Beckman Institute in collaboration with the Carle Neuroscience Institute, where she got to interact with both research scientists and clinicians. Congratulations Lydia!

Shraddha, a new PhD student in the lab, received The Lady Meherbai D. Tata Education Trust scholarship, which is geared towards helping women from India pursue higher education. Great work Shraddha and congratulations on such an achievement!

This past weekend the Alzheimer's Association hosted a Walk to End Alzheimer's here in Champaign (for more information about the Champaign walk click here or about the walks in general click here ). Members of AANCL volunteered and walked at the event to show our support for the cause. There was a great turnout at the event (307 registered participants according to the website) despite the rain and it was wonderful to see such solidarity! FanTing, Lydia, and Andrew walked and volunteered at the event this year.

Stephany and Novi worked in the lab during the spring semester as undergraduate interns, an opportunity granted to them through a research program for those residing in Living-Learning Communities. They presented their poster entitled "Using EEG to Study the Effects of Age-related Hearing Loss" at the Researchers Initiative poster symposium. Congratulations on a fantastic job!

Lydia got to attend the Cognitive Neuroscience Society 23rd annual meeting in New York City from April 2-5. She presented a poster titled "Alpha Power Changes in Amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment in Go/NoGo Tasks Involving Semantic Categorization". The poster was based off of work she did for her first year project. It was her first national conference and a great learning experience!
