Lydia made it into UIUC IHSI NeuroMatters

The Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Initiative (IHSI) at UIUC put out it's inaugural issue of NeuroMatters for Fall 2016 and Lydia had her work shown in it! In August 2016, Lydia presented a poster at "Synapse: A Collaborative Neuroscience Conference" hosted at the Beckman Institute in collaboration with the Carle Neuroscience Institute, where she got to interact with both research scientists and clinicians. Congratulations Lydia!

A huge congratulations to Drs. Wendy Rogers and Raksha Mudar on receiving a collaborative grant from the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) with their collaborators at Weill Cornell Medicine and Florida State University. Drs. Rogers and Mudar are the principle investigators on the grant for the University of Illinois team. This grant is aimed at helping older adults with cognitive impairment, such as that due to mild cognitive impairment, stroke, and traumatic brain injury. Postdoctoral Research Associates in Aging, Health, and Technology University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign College of Applied Health Sciences Description: We are seeking two postdoctoral research associates with interests in aging, health, and technology.  These positions will be jointly advised by Dr. Wendy Rogers (Director of the Human Factors and Aging Laboratory) and Dr. Raksha Mudar (Director of the Aging and Neurocognition Laboratory. The positions are for one-year initially but are renewable for up to three years.  The overall goal of our research is to support successful aging for older adults with and without mild cognitive impairment (MCI) through technologies.  The behavioral focus areas are health self-management, social connectivity, cognitive engagement, and everyday activities in the home. Paper published on changes in theta and alpha power in MCI

Congratulations to Lydia on her first first-author publication! The paper is titled "Theta and Alpha Alterations in Amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment in Semantic Go/NoGo Tasks". Abstract Growing evidence suggests that cognitive control processes are impaired in amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI); however the nature of these alterations needs further examination. The current study examined differences in electroencephalographic theta and alpha power related to cognitive control processes involving response execution and response inhibition in 22 individuals with aMCI and 22 age-, sex-, and education-matched cognitively normal controls. Two Go/NoGo tasks involving semantic categorization were used. In the basic categorization task, Go/NoGo responses were made based on exemplars of a single car (Go) and a single dog (NoGo).
