2016 Walk to End Alzheimer's

Image
This past weekend the Alzheimer's Association hosted a Walk to End Alzheimer's here in Champaign (for more information about the Champaign walk click here or about the walks in general click here ). Members of AANCL volunteered and walked at the event to show our support for the cause. There was a great turnout at the event (307 registered participants according to the website) despite the rain and it was wonderful to see such solidarity! FanTing, Lydia, and Andrew walked and volunteered at the event this year.

Congratulations Stephany and Novi!

Stephany and Novi worked in the lab during the spring semester as undergraduate interns, an opportunity granted to them through a research program for those residing in Living-Learning Communities. They presented their poster entitled "Using EEG to Study the Effects of Age-related Hearing Loss" at the Researchers Initiative poster symposium. Congratulations on a fantastic job!

Cognitive Neuroscience Society 2016

Lydia got to attend the Cognitive Neuroscience Society 23rd annual meeting in New York City from April 2-5. She presented a poster titled "Alpha Power Changes in Amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment in Go/NoGo Tasks Involving Semantic Categorization". The poster was based off of work she did for her first year project. It was her first national conference and a great learning experience! Lydia successfully presented her First Year Project to the Neuroscience Program. The project was entitled "Alpha Power Changes in Amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment in Go/NoGo Tasks Involving Semantic Categorization".

Congratulations Amy and Ewa!

Amy and Ewa both graduated with Master's degrees in Speech and Hearing Science.

Nicole and Kevin, two undergraduates in the lab, are part of the Researcher's Initiative here at UIUC. Nicole is part of Women in Math, Science, and Engineering and Kevin is part of the Health Professionals. This program has a research poster symposium at the end of the semester for the undergraduates to present what they worked on in the lab and what they learned from their research experience. Nicole and Kevin made the lab proud!

AANCL helps out at Brain Awareness Day

Image
The Neuroscience program at UIUC hosts an annual Brain Awareness Day event at the Orpheum Children's Museum. As neuron body painting was a hit last year with both the children and adults, AANCL decided to continue the tradition this year with excellent results!
